    About

    Michael Swartzon, M.D., specializes in primary care sports medicine with double Board-certification in family medicine and sports medicine. Trained in the treatment and prevention of both medical illness and orthopedic injury, he provides nonsurgical treatments for acute and overuse musculoskeletal problems to minimize time away from sports, school or work. Dr. Swartzon cares for competitive athletes as well as “weekend warriors” and non-athletes, and also treats chronic problems such as osteoarthritis to help minimize disability and maximize function. He guides referrals to physical and occupational therapy, performs various injections when appropriate and expedites referrals to an orthopedic surgeon if necessary. He has published in several medical journals and presented at national conferences on sports medicine research topics. 

    Dr. Swartzon is currently a team physician for the Miami Dolphins and a tournament physician for the Miami Open and World Golf Championships – Cadillac Championship. He also provides medical care for the Miami Marathon and Half Marathon, Escape to Miami Triathlon and Miami-Dade County public high schools. Formerly he was an adjunct professor in Florida Atlantic University’s Department of Exercise & Sports Sciences and Broward College’s Department of Biological Sciences. As a sports medicine Fellow, Dr. Swartzon was a team physician for the University of New Mexico Lobos basketball team. He has provided on-site medical care for the Paradise Jam basketball tournament, Mountain West conference championship, NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, New Mexico state rodeo and the USA Track and Field Indoor Championship. He is a clinical assistant professor at Florida International University and a volunteer faculty member at the University of Miami.
