Program Director, General Surgery Residency, Attending General Surgery
Christopher Senkowski, M.D., is a board-certified general surgeon and director of the General Surgery Residency Program at Baptist Health. His clinical interests include complex general and gastrointestinal abdominal surgeries.
Prior to joining Baptist Health, he was professor and chair of the Department of Surgery and director of the General Surgery Residency Program at Mercer University School of Medicine, in Savannah, Ga. As a surgery program director, Dr. Senkowski has trained more than 70 surgeons, many of whom are in active practice throughout the country. He takes great pride in knowing he has helped develop competent and compassionate surgeons.
Dr. Senkowski earned his medical degree at Harvard Medical School. He completed a general surgery internship and residency at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York, N.Y. He also completed fellowship training in surgical critical care and trauma surgery at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.
Dr. Senkowski is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and serves as chair of the organization’s General Surgery Coding and Reimbursement Committee and adviser to the American Medical Association’s Relative Value Update Committee. He is also a member of several other professional organizations.
Dr. Senkowski’s research focuses on healthcare policy and reimbursement. He is an editorial reviewer for the Journal of the American College of Surgeons and has authored numerous articles on surgical quality in patient care as well as a textbook on reimbursement for surgeons. Taking care of patients is a profound privilege, Dr. Senkowski says. He enjoys the human interaction with patients and their loved ones and is honored to utilize his skills to help them through the ups and downs of their healthcare journey.
